The Biju Patnaik Tribal Agro-biodiversity Centre of MSSRF has embarked on an endeavour to establish 102 pond-based integrated farming system models in Kosagumuda and Boipariguda blocks in Nabarangpur and Koraput districts respectively. The intervention is being executed under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, supported Integrated Farming System (Phase-II) project. The primary objective of the pond-based integrated farming system approach is to enhance farmers’ income by effectively harnessing the available resources. The project takes a holistic approach by integrating aquaculture, horticulture and agriculture within the same farming system, to maximise the potential of available land and water resources, resulting in a more resilient and diversified farming model. The 102 aquaculture farmers have been supported with 1500 kgs of fish yearling and 2020 numbers of fruit-bearing plants such as coconut, pomegranate, banana, amla, guava and custard apple that can grow on the pond dyke area.
Fish yearlings was distributed in 2 phases one on 14.8.2023 and another is on 21. 8.2023. Fruits plants distributed during 1st week of August 2023 in different dates.
